Fullerton city manager Joe Felz announces retirement

Joe FelzLast night at the beginning of the council’s open session, mayor Jennifer Fitzgerald read a letter from city manager Joe Felz announcing his retirement, effective December 31.

Fitzgerald announced that the council will begin a process to identify an interim city manager at a special meeting scheduled for January 5, 2017 at 5:00 p.m.

Felz, who has worked for the city for 31 years, will remain on personal leave until the effective retirement date. Human resources director Gretchen Beatty will continue to serve as acting city manager until an interim city manager is appointed.

Felz was appointed city manager in May of 2011. He is the seventh person to hold the city’s top administrator position.
