He is also founder and editor of PensionTsunami.com — a daily news aggregation website which he launched in 2004 to monitor the growing public pension crisis.
He is currently vice president of two pension reform groups — the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility (CFFR) — an educational organization launched in 2006 by the late California Assemblyman Keith Richman to work on the pension issue on a statewide basis, and a political group called California Pension Reform whose goal is to put a pension reform measure on a future statewide ballot. He is also an advisor to the California Policy Center.
After earning a B.A. in Journalism and English at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst — where he served as editor-in-chief of the campus daily newspaper — Dean began his multi-faceted career in a small town in northern Connecticut as editor of a weekly newspaper, followed by work in the fields of public relations, advertising, marketing, non-profit fundraising and political consulting.
In 2013 he was named California’s Taxfighter of the Year by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association.
